‚ÄčI am frozen in thoughts

I’ve started this poem about a thousand ways in my head

Hoping that I wouldn’t have to write it at all

Waiting for the interruption from the call that says

It’s not true

Feeling every beat of my heart in my chest

I am at war in my members

What is this civil unrest I must live through
Life is but a fragile thing

With borrowed breath I examine the future that is not promised to me

In the blink of an eye it can be over

Meanwhile time goes unbothered by life’s happenstance
Tomorrow is a desire that we all hope for

You had no idea that tomorrow was not coming for you last night

Confidently you laid down to rest

And just like that everyone’s life is changed
